Royal Mail Strike

Up to 130.000 postal workers went on strike on the 29th June 2007, in the first industrial action for eleven years. The Communications Workers Union rejected a 2.5 per cent pay rise plus £800 in shares depending in productivity improvements. Royal Mail is facing one of the biggest changes in its history and the CWU also requested negotiations over the radical modernization plans, which Royal Mail executives think are vital, with around 40.000 job losses expected.

Both sides have agreed that additional talks are needed but the clash looks forward to last over the foreseeable future, as neither side is planning to modify its demands.
